The average age of the Swedish local leader in 1985, 1991 and 1999 is 52 years. The changes within different age cohorts are small as well. Most leaders, over 40 percent, come from the middle class. The proportion of religiously active (weekly or monthly visit in church) is somewhat reduced, from 17 percent in 1985, to 14 percent in 1991 and 1999. About 30 percent of the leaders have a parent who performed or performs a corresponding political or administrative task as the respondent.
